SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and it’s a crucial part of any website – Even this one! To optimize a website for search engines is to make it friendly to them, in lamens terms. This is done because it’s not possible for humans to search the web and analyze every single page of every single website online and plac
e it in the search results accordingly. This is done through bots. Robots go out and scan sites (spiders go out and crawl sites – same thing). This is to analyze what website are about using specific elements on the pages. This is then backed up by other reputable sites saying the same thing about those sites.
If many sites agree that one site is about say, electricity, then search engines will rank that site higher for electricity keywords. Now, it goes well beyond that, for example: there are categories as to how electricity works; sites can be about that, or that can be about how to harness electricity. Depending on what the site is really about, search engines will rank the sites for the correct keywords accordingly.
This was an explanation of what SEO is and why it’s useful to websites that want to be found for the information they churn out. Now let’s get into the how:
How SEO Can Be Done From Your Laptop
The way this can be done for your own website effectively from your own laptop is as follows. Take out your laptop, log into where you can edit your site and follow these instructions carefully. First of all, the title of your website needs to be accurate and act as an ‘umbrella’ to the information you’ll be putting out on your website regularly. Then, the meta description needs to describe it in more detail, for each specific page.
The next thing is you need to effectively churn out good information for people to read and be accurate to what they need to find out. Then, add images that are relevant to the text. Edit the title and alt text of these images to be about what the text is about. This will show search engines that you’re showing supportive materials that go along with what you’re writing on that keyboard. Then, add a video to show the same thing. The video has to be about the same thing we just discussed. You’re almost done (with 10% of the battle!) LOL.
The Fun Part of SEO
Now comes the most fun part. You need to get out there on the web and build profiles on social sites regarding your website. And be active on them! This will show search engine spiders that you’re talking to people in different areas and there are eyeballs seeing your information from multiple different websites. Link these profiles and posts to your website consistently.
Then, you need to get out there in the media, go on and get some press releases done. have the media talking about you, because this is where there are even more eyes ready to see your site. This will eventually catch on and people will start to use your site as a reference if they are typing anything about the same subject you’re site is about. Wikipedia can pick you up, authors on other sites can pick you up. This is where the magic happens. THIS, is how SEO is done from your laptop.
